Superheroes are gluttons for punishment. Comic book writers love to push them to the limit, breaking them apart like a kid with a toy. Wolverine and Deadpool, with their amazing healing abilities, have endured extreme pain. Thor and Aquaman have lost limbs, while Superman and Spider-Man have been killed and revived in implausible ways. But sometimes, comic book injuries or deaths are so over-the-top that they're impossible to take seriously, resulting in ridiculous moments. Some are intentional, others unintentionally hilarious. Here are some memorable examples of strange superhero injuries.

Spider-Man eats so much it feels like he will explode.Marvel Zombies Return#1.Instead of late-night Taco Bell, Spider-Man stuffs his stomach with Sandman until he can't take more. Why does Sandman take such extreme measures against his long-time foe (and why didn't he do it sooner)?
In the comic, the Spider-Man from Earth-91126 prepares to fightthe Sinister Six. Then, the zombie Spider-Man arrives. He kills most villains while the non-zombie Spider-Man changes into his costume. Sandman, escaping the killing, mistakes the innocent Spider-Man for the zombie and attacks the webslinger with all his rage.

Before Marvel Comics shut down, theUltimate Comicsimprint gained a bad reputation for getting rid of favorite heroes in gruesome ways. The most infamous example is theBlob devouring the Wasp's corpse. By 2009, theUltimatumshowed how ridiculous theUltimate Comicslineup became at delivering gruesome events for shock value.
InUltimatum#4, Dormammu kills his foe by using his cape to end him. Strange's red face balloons from the pressure until it explodes like a squashed tomato. This is gross, but too silly to take seriously. If only Strange followed Edna Mode's advice fromThe Incredibles: “No capes!”
179 - 3

In 2009'sSinister Spider-Man#4, the assassin Bullseye fires an angry poodle into the eye of the symbiote Venom. Venom, who uses former Spider-Man villain Mac Gargan (Scorpion) as his host, does not like Bullseye’s strange attack.
Bullseye used a toy poodle because Daken, Wolverine's son, dared him.

WhileInjusticevideo games are popular fighting games, comic book tie-ins lack mainstream recognition. Comic book video game adaptations are hit or miss, but theInjustice comic book seriesdoes a good job showing its nightmarish vision of DC superheroes.
It also provides dark, funny moments, likeInjustice: Gods Among Us -Year Four Annual#1, where Plastic Man hits the Flash by stretching his fingers up the speedster’s nose.
116 - 5

Normally, having your face ripped off and your genitals blasted apart would qualify anycomic book characterfor this humiliating list. Wolverine is not normal, though. Frank Castle knows this. In 2002'sPunisher#17, a twisted story by Garth Ennis, Frank pushes Wolverine's healing factor to its limit.
After giving Wolverine one of the worst pains he has known, Frank crushes Wolverine with a steamroller, beating him like Wile E. Coyote.
110 - 6

Not every superhero team is equal. Every Justice League has Section 8. What is Section 8? Like the military term suggests, these heroes are oddballs, "mentally unfit for duty." Sixpack, a drunken hero who fights with a broken beer bottle, and Dogwelder, a hero who welds dead dogs onto bad guys, are examples of useless heroes in DC Comics: Friendly Fire.
Friendly Fire can shoot powerful energy bolts. However, he cannot aim if his life depends on it—literally.Hitman#52 (2000), Friendly Fire almost gets his heroic moment. He focuses his energy blasts on a demon attacking his team. Instead, Friendly Fire blows his own head off.

In 2011'sDeadpool Team-Up#885, the Merc with a Mouth faces a brutal Looney Tunes-style trap. Deadpool avoids the anvil's path by reaching for a four-leaf clover. But his face gets smashed when the anvil swings back while he admires his good luck charm.
This issue is not the strangest. Deadpool teams up with a vampire cow to stop a mad scientist from taking his pituitary gland.
103 - 8

There are many bizarre members of the Green Lantern Corps. The Green Lantern CorpsThe number of members makes tracking them impossible. Readers should remember Ch'p, the alien Green Lantern squirrel. Perhaps the biggest comic book demise involves Ch'p getting hit by a yellow truck inGreen Lantern: Mosaic#2 (1992).
Ch'p becoming roadkill is not the joke. The truck is yellow—a weakness of the Green Lantern Corps. That detail about Ch'p's death is the final touch.
94 - 9

Only Kryptonite and magic (teeth, in this case) can take out Superman. The first volume ofJustice League Dark (2012), the Man of Steel faces incapacitation from a swarm of magical dentures conjured by the Enchantress.
The magic in the teeth hurts Superman. Wonder Woman calling him "cut to ribbons" by these choppers makes the scene too funny to take seriously.
90 - 10

The BoysThe Boys never shy away from harsh or ridiculous death scenes. Look atThe Boys#53 (2011), where the Avenging Squad is killed in a Third Reich ambush during WWII. Eagle the Archer tries to fly away, but a friendly plane's propeller dices him up.
Then a German tank runs over Archer’s remains. It is bloody, silly, and ironic. Bravo!
