About this list

What do Charles Manson and Captain America have in common? You might be a buzzkill if you said they're both mass murderers, but you'd be right. Superheroes who kill are surprisingly common, and those framed for crimes are even more so. Few, however, can claim multiple homicides. The FBI defines mass murder as killing four or more people in a row without a break. Superheroes rarely get a break, though - they're constantly thrown into high-stress situations. If our heroes committed such atrocities, could we still trust them? Or would we just sweep it under the rug? We often ignore the flaws in our idols that don't fit their image. It's time to see them for who they really are, even if they've harmed their own family. Ready to uncover the dark side of your favorite heroes? Let's dive in.

    Superman

Superman shows truth, justice, and the American way. He stands as the peak of moral strength. Raised with strong values, the Man of Steel leads by example. He proves near-unlimited power needs mercy and compassion. He could kill all his enemies fast. But Superman never acts like that.

He only did this sometimes.totallydoes that. Some alternate universes show the Big Blue Boy Scout going wild and murdering anyone. (Look at Injustice: Gods Among Us)he kills the Kryptonian General Zod in bothSuperman IIand the Zack Snyder film Man of Steel.

His hands are not clean in the official story either. In Supermanvol. 2, #22, he uses Kryptonite to end Zod and other Phantom Zone criminals. Zoara even offered to be his sex slave forever if he spared her life.

This left deep psychological scars on Superman. He vowed never to kill again.

He kept that promise... for a while. In Supermanvol. 2, #75, he murders Doomsday to save the planet. In a world where you cannot trust anyone,Supermanwho can you trust?

    Captain America

Captain America holds a special spot in our minds, like Superman. He is obsessed with fairness and honor, making him nearly faultless. Steve Rogers even stepped down several times over fights with the US government. But we must remember he reached that high spot on a bed of dead people.

Captain America: They were Nazi corpses. History stripped Nazis of humanity to an extreme degree. Many rank-and-file Germans were just scared farm boys forced into fighting. Captain America did not give enemy combatants questionnaires about their ideas during World War II.

As a Super Soldier, Cap had one real job: kill state enemies. Estimates differ on his body count, but Captain America certainly killed more than his share of Axis and Hydra soldiers. That is a huge burden for a guy who cannot enjoy a good scotch.

    Spider-Man

No. Come on. Not our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! Peter Parker is seen as one of the most relatable figures in the Marvel Universe. Beneath his charming, sarcastic look, however, is the heart of a killer. Or maybe several hearts of killers. Spider anatomy is complex; that is best left to the arachnologists.

Spider-Man rarely takes down many foes at once. Spider-Man has bodies on him. His mask should hide a flood of teardrop tattoos. Despite his innocent look, Spidey has at least 18confirmed killsSpider-Man has three more attempted murders on his name. Some are accidents, and he often regrets killing his enemies. "I would really rather not have done it" is not a good defense in court.

    Wolverine

Wolverine, also known as Weapon X, Logan, and James Howlett, has existed for a long time. His amazing healing factor keeps him looking young; he looks like a man in his 30s, but he is likely closer to 150, depending on the source material. For most of this time, Wolverine has been an unstoppable killing machine.

Wolverine has flashbacks to his time as a soldier in every major 20th-century conflict. Wolverine did not invite enemy combatants to tea. Aside from implied kills, Wolverine murdered many people in the Marvel Universe. He cut his way out of theWeapon X program(killing a gaggle of scientists), murdered all X-Men in theOld Man Loganstoryline, and took the life of Daken, his own son.

Leading that life seems likely when your main superpower is "hands that make it easy to stab people."

    The Hulk

The Hulk. The name means strength, power, and blind rage. After Bruce Banner took gamma radiation, this green giant was unleashed. Given the Hulk's strength and love for smashing, his body count is surprisingly nothigher.

Still, the Hulk is bigger than an average bear. The Hulk likely has a huge body count from his rampages (even with Brian Michael Bendis's "super math"). The Hulk killed many people on purpose. Confirmed kills include 126 individuals across realities. Some murders involved alternate Hulks. This shows he always has slaughter in his heart.

    Hal Jordan

The Green Lantern Corps is a major DC Universe organization. It maintains order and justice across many planets. The burden of theGreen Lanternis often heavy.Hal Jordan, a Green Lantern from Earth and Guardian of Sector 2814, always carried it with style and grace. Except thatone timehe went crazy and killed most of his friends and colleagues.

Hal Jordan lost his mind after Coast City was destroyed., his former home. He went to Oa, the Guardians of the Universe's home, and killed two close allies and most of the Guardians. Later, this was changed to mean Parallax, an ancient fear, possessed Jordan, but the deaths stayed the same.

Either through madness or possession, Hal Jordan still committed genocide. That would have made for awaybetterRyan Reynoldsmovie.

    Star-Lord

We all lovedGuardians of the GalaxyChris Pratt's charming performance as the roguishly handsome Star-Lord drove the film's success. People like the criminal with a heart of gold.

We must remember Star-Lordisa criminal. Peter Quill killed the first two aliens he met as a child. Though they killed his mother, that is manslaughter at least. The Nova Corps (Marvel's galactic police force) says he caused the deaths of over 35,000 sentient beings. Some result from Galactic conflicts and personal issues. Most stem from Quill and his ship destroying a Kree colony to defeat a Herald of Galactus. That is genocide.catchy pop songscannot makethatare awesome.

    Thor

Thor acts like an asshole. The God of Thunder joins superheroes for simple reasons, but he shows up cocky, arrogant, and condescending. This makes sense. Thor's Earth adventures are a small part of his life. Given the writers' inconsistencies in comics, Thor is probably around 4,000 years old. Perhaps older. This means some life aspects hold little weight for him compared to ours.

Most people ignore a bug because they know it will die soon. That is how other mortals live for Thor. Through his publication history, he killed Wasp, Wolverine, Captain America, the Hulk, the Thing, andSentry.

Thor murders many Frost Giants with cold blood and other myths. He even kills his grandfather Bor in one story! This is hardcore and rare; there is no word for it. We must settle for deicide.

    The Spectre

The Spectre is a god-like figure in the DC Universe. It carries out vengeance on those he deems guilty. Guided by "The Voice," a stand-in for the Judeo-Christian God, the Spectre is a force of nearly limitless righteous power. Some call himthe most powerful superheroThe Spectre remains controversial. His violent approach to justice causes debate in the DC Universe.

The Spectre has no Batman-esque qualms about murder. He will kill people he considers bad—using gruesome methods. He turns people into objects and smashes them. He strips flesh from bones with a touch. He slaughters entire dimensions in hand-to-hand combat. This happens in agoodmental state.

When the Spectre leaves a human host, he loses the ability to judge things objectively. Last time, he started randomly murdering people for petty theft. Other DC heroes do not talk about this; they act like it is no big deal. They probably just do not want to be next.

    Aquaman

Jokes about Aquaman being lame mirror jokes about bad airplane food. They have existed forever; they are mostly invalid now. Have you flown JetBlue recently? Their popcorn is good.

Arthur Curry became Aquaman, the King of Atlantis. This title brings duties, like killing all foreign enemies. Besides killing Black Manta's father (which is a reason to hate someone), Aquaman has taken out entire nations in other realities.Aquaman killed entire nations in the Flashpoint crossover event. Aquaman killed countless Amazonians and over 60 million civilians when he sank Western Europe.Aquaman killed countless Amazonians and over 60 million civilians when he sank Western Europe during the Flashpoint crossover event.Aquaman killed countless Amazonians and over 60 million civilians when he sank Western Europe during the Flashpoint crossover event.Aquaman killed countless Amazonians and over 60 million civilians when he sank Western Europe.

And that was because Aquaman could not get over a crush on Wonder Woman. Imagine what he could do if he was really angry. That was because Aquaman could not get over a crush on Wonder Woman. Imagine what he could do if he was really pissed. He acted that way simply because he couldn't move past a crush on Wonder Woman. Picture what he could accomplish if he truly got angry.

    Black Widow

Natasha Romanova, a former Russian spy and top espionage artist, wears many roles. She is an Avenger, Black Widow, a superhero. Perhaps "killer" fits her best. As a KGB agent, Black Widow trained her to be ruthless and calculating. These skills helped her later as an Avenger.

We must recall what those skills mean. Romanova once faced abduction by Baron von Strucker. The Hand gave her the role of their new Master Assassin. Black Widow keeps her past vague, but they did not give her that job for her baking skills.

Natasha Romanova almost derailed her first Avengers audition. She stopped an alien incursion by threatening to kill their leader. The Avengers had a strict "no killing" rule, even though several members appeared on this list.

Black Widow has murdered Edwin Jarvis (Tony Stark's butler), Petra (the new Black Widow), and several Skrulls during their invasion. Natasha will do what is needed for her mission. If killing crosses a line, she crossed it long ago.

    Silver Surfer

Norrin Radd was a scholar from Zenn-La before Galactus arrived. Radd agreed to serve as Galactus's herald. He guided Galactus to new planets for consumption, ensuring his home planet's safety. Imbued with the Power Cosmic, Radd became Silver Surfer. He saved his planet and aimed to save other civilizations by leading Galactus to empty worlds.

Things went wrong. Galactus stopped the Silver Surfer from achieving his goals by messing with his soul, which is wild. Radd was forced to find worlds for his master to eat. For what felt like thousands of years, the Silver Surfer indirectly caused the deaths of billions, perhaps trillions, of life forms.

Some argue the Silver Surfer wasn't at fault because Galactus controlled him. That changes. The Silver Surfer eventually broke free. He rebelled against his master on Earth because he respected the people. This forced his master to remove him. Were other planets not worthy of saving? He could have escaped.Silver Surfer appears at any time.. That is cold, even for a man made of silver.

    Jean Grey

Jean Grey is a psychic mutant. She is so powerful she rarely uses a code name. Her real name scares her enemies. Besides her strong natural powers, the Marvel Universe calls Grey an avatar forJean Grey possesses the Phoenix Force. The Phoenix embodies life and passion. It is a mighty being with unlimited power. Wrong hands make the Phoenix very dangerous. Grey's hands often prove to be those.

During the Dark Phoenix story, Grey loses control of her power (or the Phoenix gets overwhelmed by human feelings, or both). She becomes the Dark Phoenix. In this villainous form, Grey travels across space to the D'Bari star system. To satisfy her 'hunger,' she consumes the energy of the entire star. This killed nearly five billion inhabitants of a nearby planet and a Shi'ar observatory ship.

Five billion lives ended instantly. Does this change how she relates to Cyclops? That is a question.

    Hawkeye

Clint Barton, a former criminal turned Avenger, is incredibly deadly without powers. He shootsHawkeye uses arrows. from his bow. These arrows are not all tricks. Many end in death. As Hawkeye, Barton swore to kill only once. You can guess the direction this leads.

Hawkeye killed many Kree during their Earth invasion (and the Skrull invasion). In theHawkeye uses Ultimates.reality, he faced death for murder before joining the Avengers. He tried to kill Scarlet Witch during the House of M story. He becomes the go-to for any Avengers Black Ops.

Perhaps most infamous, Hawkeye shot Bruce Banner in the heart and brain duringHawkeye appears in Civil War II.to stop Banner from becoming the Hulk again. Banner claimed he asked him to do it later. That is not something you ask someone who hasn't killed many people.
