Marvel Studios fans tried to avoid spoilers, but they still speculated about who would die in Avengers: Infinity War. They knew the movie would have sad moments, so some fans studied Marvel's publishing history to prepare themselves. By looking at past comic events, they tried to find hints about the future. Since Marvel superheroes often die in comic books - only to return later - there were many potential storylines for Marvel Studios to use. Knowing how an Avenger died in the comics didn't make the movie easier to watch, but it gave fans some idea of what to expect.

Loki and Thor grew up together for a thousand years. Loki was an antagonist most of that time. Still, Loki’s love for his brother showed up sometimes. Loki sacrificed his life to protect Thor and save all of Asgard from The Void. Loki caused The Void to bombard Asgard, but he did the right thing when necessary.
Loki’s sacrifice ends fast. The Void, the evil side of the god-like Sentry, blows him up. Thor still has to beat The Void. Loki does not stay gone long; he is a god.

Early in the events of War Machine.Civil War II., Thanos came to Earth for the Cosmic Cube. The Avengers beat him, or so they thought. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes underestimated the Mad Titan. Thanos punched a hole through Rhodes, War Machine armor, and everything.
Some superhero deaths are final. This one is one of them. He never returns to Marvel Comics pages.

Nebula and Thanos have a complex relationship in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Comics show a much messier backstory. Marvel Comics continuity suggests Nebula is not related to Thanos, though she claims to be his granddaughter.
After Thanos got the Infinity Gauntlet, he disliked her claims. He turned Nebula into a twisted, miserable being, calling her “living death.” Nebula won the last laugh. She grabbed the Gauntlet from Thanos and reversed his actions at the end of the Infinity Gauntlet.storyline.

One of the least known casualties in the comic book version ofCivil War.Happy Hogan, Tony Stark’s long-time driver and only real friend. Hogan died near an event. He tried to stop a villain called the Spymaster from entering a Stark lab. Hogan fell from a great height. He ended up comatose and brain dead. Tony Stark officially ended Hogan’s life using his tech to remotely “pull the plug” on his friend, sparing Pepper Potts a tough choice.

The events of Hawkeye.Avengers Disassembled.are (predictably) not a good time for the Avengers. The story shows the Scarlet Witch going mad. She used her reality-altering powers against her own team. She made an imaginary alien incursion. This act killed Hawkeye. While fighting the supposed Kree invaders, Clint Barton’s quiver caught fire.
Hawkeye uses exploding arrows and a Kree jetpack to take out an enemy spacecraft in an explosion. The Scarlet Witch later brings Hawkeye back to life.

Drax the Destroyer gets a relatively good end during the events of The Thanos Imperative.The Thanos ImperativeThe Guardians of the Galaxy team up with Thanos to invade a universe where death is defeated. Thanos and Drax fight each other during the mission, and both win, but the Cancerverse resurrects them fast.
The two get trapped in the Cancerverse, letting them kill each other repeatedly. Drax seems to get a fitting end, but he returns to life again for the release of the Guardians of the Galaxyfilm.

The events ofAvengers DisassembledThe Scarlet Witch uses her reality-altering powers to disassemble her teammates. The Vision faces a literal disassembly. Wanda Maximoff drives She-Hulk into uncontrollable rage, ripping The Vision apart. The synthezoid rebuilds quickly, as new.

The events ofThe Thanos ImperativeThe Guardians of the Galaxy join Thanos to check out a universe where death is gone. After conquering the Cancerverse, Star-Lord and Nova plan to trap Thanos there forever. Star-Lord uses the Cosmic Cube to send his teammates home, then stays with Nova and Drax the Destroyer to fight Thanos forever.
This afterlife battle won't last long for Peter Quill, who returns to the real universe for the release ofGuardians of the Galaxy, the film.

Tony Stark builds Ultron with help from the Mind Stone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man, solely invents Ultron during the events of theRage of UltronIn the graphic novel, 'father' and 'son' fight again. Pym throws a curveball at Ultron by starting a sequence that merges their beings.
The blended Pym-tron reaches Earth. Ultron controls the new entity; Pym is just a meat puppet. In the Marvel Comics world, Hank Pym is gone, and remains gone.

Thor's mythology includes a life and death cycle with the Asgardians. Thor dies and is reborn multiple times in the comics. His latest end comes from his uncle, Cul, the God of Fear. A prophecy said Thor would die facing Cul, but Thor fought anyway, even when Cul turned into a huge serpent.
Thor kills the serpent with the Odinsword, fulfilling the prophecy. Then, Thor dies soon after. Since Thor is an Asgardian god, he stays in Hel for a while before returning a few issues later.

Scott Lang, the second Ant-Man in comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is a light-hearted character. He also receives one of the most graphic ends in Avenger history during the events of Avengers Disassembled.The Cosmic Cube, an uber-powerful artifact, lets the Red Skull rewrite Steve Rogers’s history. This makes Captain America appear as a HYDRA secret agent. Evil Cap takes over the United States. Black Widow forms an underground resistance. Natasha Romanoff trains young heroes, including Miles Morales, to fight the HYDRA hordes. - a mad Scarlet Witch uses her reality powers to attack teammates. The recently dead Avenger Jack of Hearts appears at the Mansion.
The Witch turns him into an undead suicide bomb. It explodes on the Avengers’ lawn, vaporizing Scott Lang. Almost ten years later, Lang's daughter, Cassie, joins young superheroes and uses time travel to bring her father back.

Secret EmpireThe events ofMorales eventually confronts Rogers at the Capitol Building steps. Black Widow steps in, taking a hit from Cap’s shield that was aimed at Morales. Black Widow has not appeared in Marvel Comics since then.

The end of Bruce Banner occurs inThe fans of Marvel Comics struggle to accept Civil War II. This film shows the strongest Avenger being defeated by the weakest one. Hawkeye kills the Hulk, but serious reasons exist. While Banner thought he was cured of his size and strength, Banner builds a weapon that can defeat the Hulk. Banner gives this weapon to Clint Barton, telling him to use it if he ever 'Hulks out' again.Civil War II
The moment arrives inCivil WarHawkeye does not hesitate. He snipes Banner in front of Avengers and then turns himself in. The original Hulk has not returned to Marvel Comics.

As in the MCU, Marvel Comics shows aCivil WarCaptain America fights Iron Man over superhero registration. The comic book event ends differently. Cap surrenders to justice after seeing the damage his resistance causes America. A sniper takes Captain America on the courthouse steps. Bucky Barnes, the former Winter Soldier, takes his place. He holds the shield for years until Steve Rogers returns.

Spider-Man dies a couple of times in Marvel continuity. The latest, most memorable instance happens at the end of theDying Wishstory arc and the start of the epicSuperior Spider-ManThese comics show Doctor Octopus uses a mind swap trick on Peter Parker, trapping the wallcrawler in his sick body.
Parker dies in Doc Ock’s body, but only after downloading his memories into Ock’s brain. Lessons on power and responsibility make Doctor Octopus the Superior Spider-Man for several years before the real Spider-Man returns.
