In 1999, Cynthia Vigil Jaramillo escaped a motor home. She ran naked into the New Mexico desert after overpowering Cindy Hendy, David Ray Parker's girlfriend. Police followed her directions back to the trailer. They found a dungeon there. This dungeon was built to torture women. After this, Ray became the "Toy Box Killer."
He abducted women in rural Elephant Butte. He systematically harmed them for weeks or months. His friends and his girlfriend helped him. When the captives arrived, the women heard a recording. Ray told them the horrors ahead. This included mutilation, beatings, assaults, and forced bestiality. People suspect he harmed about 60 women over 40 years.
Ray died from a heart attack in 2002 while police had him.

Dr. H. H. Holmes, an expert con man, always found money to live. He eventually earned enough to build a hotel for Chicago's 1893 World's Fair visitors. This hotel later became known as "the Murder Castle." During the hotel's build, Holmes made secret stairways, doors leading nowhere, and locks that could trap people inside rooms. Bedrooms had soundproofing, and some rooms only opened with trap doors.
Once the hotel was finished, Holmes lured people in as guests. He kept them there, sealing them in rooms to starve, torturing them to death, hanging them, and then dissecting their bodies to sell the remains to doctors. After being arrested in 1934, Holmes received a death sentence by hanging and died in 1936.

Madame Delphine LaLaurie lived in New Orleans around the 1830s.
