Best Alien Superheroes

What makes aliens great superheroes? Is it their easy-to-imagine super powers or their fresh, outside perspective on our world? Whatever the reason, the best alien superheroes have become a huge part of our popular culture. Superman, the most iconic, was created as a symbol of America - a refugee who grew up to embody American ideals. Soon, he wasn't the only alien superhero. The Green Lantern Corps, with its diverse members like an alien squirrel, and the strange but sympathetic Guardians of the Galaxy, showed comics could move beyond Earth-based stories. Alien characters brought colorful, original stories. Despite their strange quirks, many are relatable - like Kilowog, the drill sergeant with a heart of gold, or Silver Surfer, filled with guilt over his job. Even Supergirl struggles to prove herself in a famous relative's shadow. Mar-Vell's cancer story is one of comics' most controversial. Super powers don't shield them from emotional strife, which is why we love these characters - they're human, despite being alien.
